Palghar: Violations have been registered in three people for allegedly creating a commotion and attacking mourners during cremation in a village in Palghar district, police said on Saturday.
A case below section 297 (entered without permission in burial places), 341 (penalty for wrong restrainment) and other relevant provisions of the scheduled IPC and caste scheduled ACT, 1989 registered at the Saphale police station on the day Friday, Friday, said an official.
There was no arrest related to the alleged incident that took place on Thursday, he said.
According to the police, a 55-year-old woman who died of a short disease, was being taken for cremation, when the defendant Vinod Sakharam Thakur, Sarita Vinod Thakur and Nachiket Vinod Thakur stopped the mourners to enter the village crematorium.
The trio was allegedly harassed by villagers verbally to take part in the funeral procession and beat some of them, the official said.
One of the villagers submitted a complaint to the police, after the registered case, he said, added that further investigation was ongoing.
