Trichy: Trichy District Collector S Sivarasu launched the Plantation Sapling Palmyra drive on the Bunds of the Manikandam Big Tank on Monday.
Organized by the SHINE Treecty NGO, around 1,000 palmyra puppies were planted.
Volunteers and students are involved in the journey.
NGOs have identified other public tanks in rural administration blocks to increase the country’s official trees.
“We have mobilized enough palmyra seeds to continue the drive of the plantation in a gradual way in a different place,” D Manoj, the organizer of the Drive Plantation, said.
