Bhubaneswar: BJP on Thursday promised to end a controversial centralized token system for the procurement of rice and streamline purchases by opening a market yard at the Panchayat level under the leadership of Sarpanchs, if the party was chosen to rule in the election of Panchayat in the country.

BJP President Samir Mohanty said his party would fight for a transparent rice procurement system by ending the Nexus of Miller and intermediaries.

Various farmer organizations have protested the current system, where farmers can sell rice only when they receive centralized tokens produced at the state level and on the previous date and time given to them.

BJP also promised to ensure central cash incentives under the scheme of PM Kisan reached farmers.
The party said that even though the Union Government had provided Rs 6,000 per year in three installments, the Lion part of the money would be a middleman because of loyalty to the powerful party in Odisha and not to the real farmers.
