Thiruvananthapuram: Panchayats in the district record 134 wild dog bites between 2019 and 2021 and one death, according to the latest numbers presented in assembly.
In four fiscal, 73 Panchayats in the Regency have spent RS 3.6 Crore to implement animal birth control projects (ABC) and rural local bodies have given RS 4.8 Crore to this project during this period.
Four Panchayats Kottukal, Nagaroor, Azhoor and Anchuthengu contributed 73% of the wild dog bites in this district in two years.
In Nagaroor only, 46 wild dog bite cases were reported in the district, while Anchuthengu and Azhoor reported each of 10 and 8.
The coast of Panciranat Kottukal reported 35 cases of wild dog bites.
Death due to a bite of a wild dog occurred in Chirayinkezhu.
Five urban local agencies in the district together allocated 1.32 crorses to implement the ABC project in the district between 2019-20 and 2020-21.
Urban local bodies in the district have made a rare funding funds intended for ABC implementation until 2019.
Images available until 2019 show that city companies allocate each Hospital 3 Crore for 2016-17 and 2017-18 under ABC.
However, expenditure was limited to Rs 26.4 lakh in 2016-17 and Rs 13.9 lakh in 2017-18.
But in 2018-19, Attingal Municipality, which menggukus Rs 1 lakh for the project, showed zero expenses.
Nedumangadu Municipality only spent RS 87,203 in 2016-17 when the allocation of RS 18 Lakh.
Varkala is another municipality that even made zero allocation for 2018-19.
The amount allocated for ABC also shows the last fiscal decline for every urban local body in this district.
Attingal Municipality which made Rs 3.98 lakh for ABC in 2016-17 reduced the allocation to Rs 1 Lakh in 2018-19.
In March 2021, a wild dog changed with violence and was bitten around 19 people in Kottukal.
The assembly record presented in January showed that 19 illegal dog bite incidents were reported in the district in the past year.
The local body must spend a 3.8 crore at one year as part of the wild dog control steps in the district.
Death due to illegal dog bites was reported in 2016 and 2017 in Pulluvila in Karumkulam Panchayat.
In 2017, Josklin, 45, a fisherman had given up on an injury after a wild dog attack on Pulluvila.
Siluvamma, 65, has died of blood loss after he suffered a serious bite injury on the beach in Pulluvila in 2016.
Other women were injured sadly in a wild dog attack.
Waste management is quoted as the main reason for the increase in the number of wild dogs on the coast of the peshayat.
