Jaipur: Pandemic has taken the victim on the sale of flags during the Republican Day.
Before Covid, wholesalers used to sell 1.5 lakh tricolor but now sales have been dipped due to locking and closing of educational institutions.
“Hawkers who sell flags on the streets are our biggest customers today.
They sell flags in traffic signals or from temporary roadside huts.
Last year, we used to provide flags in Rajasthan and the nearest countries too.
But all businesses are closed because of Schools and colleges where Republic Day is celebrated also closed, “said Lokesh Aggarwal, owner of Chhagan Lal & Sons, wholesale shop at Tripolia Market.
All educational institutions, offices and private clubs, who usually raised national flags on their campuses on that occasion, were closed due to a pandemic, which had a negative impact on sales.
Until last year, students and people attending the private sector used to buy this flag, which has now dropped to zero.
The flag shopkeepers in Ajmer said that their main source of income was a political party flag during the election.
At present the general elections above, Punjab and other countries provide a good business to flag makers in Rajasthan.
Pappu Lal, flag sales at Jda Circle, said that last year, he gained around Rs 3,700 by selling flags in the traffic signal.
“Previously, ordinary people bought flags for their school children, but now the school was closed.
This year’s sales went down and I was afraid if I would be able to sell all the products I bought,” Lal said.
The majority of women in the city slums employed to make the tricolor flag before now fully depend on the flag of political parties stitching because of the election.
