BENGALURU: Though a costly alternative, the requirement for air travel providers in the country has witnessed a spurt because the epidemic of Covid-19 this past calendar year, together with numerous Covid sufferers being airlifted from small to larger cities as well as vice versa.
Until April, air travel services utilized to transport 5-10 severely sick patients per month out of smaller towns such as Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Koppal and Ballari to metropolitan cities like Bengaluru and Chennai apart from Hyderabad.
But need went around 20-30 per day during the next wave.

“I receive around 30 calls daily.
It’s difficult to say not, however we also need to prioritise that we perform with triaging,” explained Dr Shalini Nalwad, co-founder and manager, International Critical Care Air Transport Team (ICATT), an air ambulance with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
