Panel: Low Facilities-Based Insulation & Testing Targeting Hobling Kerala

New Delhi: Very low acceptance for facilities-based insulation between Covid patients in Kerala has led to an increase in virus transmissions in the family and high levels of pioneering, the central team visiting the country has reported.
While the country has tested a very high number of samples, the team has raised concerns about the targeted strategy and said it must be somewhat focused on detecting infected individuals.
In some districts such as Malappuram, with more than 17% positive test, the team observed that despite increasingly increasing the trajectory of positive cases, the average daily testing of the week-time-on-week showed the downward trend.
“The state follows target-based testing.
The district is allocated target for testing every day.
This creates a sense of completing the target rather than focusing on detecting infected individuals,” said one of the teams reported.
It also raises concerns about the level of high-breakthrough infection after vaccination in several districts.
Health Minister Union Mansukh Mandaviya wrote to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday urging proactive steps to control the situation.
The team recommends that at least patients with significant symptoms must be in institutional isolation.
