CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government will form a committee headed by an IAS officer to probe irregularities in appointments at three state universities – Periyar University in Salem, Madurai Kamaraj University and Annamalai University in Chidambaram.
“We have received complaints alleging irregularities in appointments in these three universities.
Courts also gave directions against these irregularities.
After consulting with the chief minister, we will form an inquiry committee headed by an IAS officer and will take action based on the findings of the committee,” higher education minister K Ponmudi said.
There were allegations of irregularities in giving promotion to faculty members of Madurai Kamaraj University and Annamalai University.
Faculty members said Madurai Kamaraj University had not taken any action on the Justice G M Akbar Ali committee’s reportwhich recommended theuniversity to review the promotions of 40 faculty members.
Likewise, the faculty members allege irregularities in appointments and civil work at Periyar University in the last 10 years.
