New Delhi: Animal Regulator Subject Expert Committee (SEC) will check the application on Thursday looking for marketing authorization for Molnupiravir, the first drug in the world to treat Covid symptoms.
The SEC urged meeting was called to review the proposal “under the accelerated approval process”.
The committee will check the application of at least eight Indian pharmaceutical companies, an official said.
Molnupiravir has shown a promise in the treatment of Covid-19 which is light to medium to adults, after almost splitting twice the risk of hospitalization and death.
Some companies, including Natco, Dr.
Reddy’s, Cipla, Sun Pharma, Hetero and BDR Pharma are waiting for rules to introduce generic antivirus in India.
Development assumes the significance of the antivirus oral pill, developed by Merck and the Ridgeback of its partners, is said to be a modifier of games for high-risk individuals and people with weak immunity.
