Ludhiana: Panic while trying to pass a police check near Bharat Nagar Chowk, the resident of the car dropped a bag containing Rs 17.90 lakh on Friday night.
Then, the car advanced breaking the barricade.
Police are suspicious that the defendant can be involved in the transaction of hawala money, drug money or cash can be intended for elections.
The police have confiscated cash and submitted the first officer accused of being unknown in this matter.
Gursharanjit Singh, Incharge, the bus police post, said the police had established Naka at Bharat Nagar Chowk to check the vehicle.
The police stopped Mahindra Scorpio’s SUV to be examined.
One occupant came down from the car with a bag in his hand.
When the police asked him to open the bag to check, the defendant jumped into the vehicle and drove long after breaking the barricade.
But in the process, the bag fell from his hand.
Police found Rs 17.90 lakh in the bag, ASI added.
ASI says whether it’s a hawala money, drug money or related to the election, it will be clear after the arrest of allegations.
The case is below section 353 (violence or criminal to prevent public servants from the release of their duties) and 186 (obstructing public servants in the disposal of public function) IPC has been submitted to unknown allegations.
ASI said the police traced the vehicle registration number and the owner had been identified as Hoshiar Singh from Dolewal Moga Village.
A police team was sent to that place but Hoshiar Singh was not found there.
Further probes are taking place.
