Kabul: In the midst of a heavy battle between the Taliban and the National Front Resistance Forces (NRF) to control Panjshir Valley, NRF on Sunday claimed to have captured many Taliban troops.
NRF said that he surrounded hundreds of Taliban fighters in the Khawak Pass and Taliban vehicles and equipment left in the Dashte Sepulger area, reported Al Jazeera.
Charles Stratford Al Jazeera, based in the Capital Kabul, reported that sources in the field said hundreds of Taliban fighters had been detained on Sundays.
“The source in the valley said that NRF claimed to have captured around 1,500 Taliban.
Apparently, these fighters were surrounded,” Stratford said.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Bilal Karimi said on Twitter on Sunday his troops had confiscated five of the seven provincial districts.
Karimi said Khinj and Unibah District had been taken.
“Mujahideen [Taliban fighters] advanced to the center of [Province],” he wrote.
Panjshir was the last Afghan province who survived against armed groups that swept power last month.
Taliban face a rigid resistance after pushing far to Holdout Panjshir Holdout Afghanistan.
Both parties claim to have the advantage in Panjshir but no one can produce conclusive evidence to prove it, report Al Jazeera.
