Papora Papers: illegal wealth of ‘open’ world leaders

Nearly 12 million documents are said to throw secrets, ‘lack’ wealth of rich and famous people, including Indians, published on Sunday as part of the ‘Pandora Papers’ investigation.
A treasure of nearly 12 million documents that are said to throw light in secrets, and allegedly illness, the wealth of rich and famous people, including Indians, published on Sunday as part of the famous “Pandora paper” investigation.
The International Consortium Website Journalist Investigation (ICIJ), which has compiled data from 2016, called a probe that enveloped politicians and business billionaires across the whole world “offshore data tsunami”.
As many as 2.94 terabytes of files originating from companies hired by wealthy clients to be suspected of creating offshore structures and trust in tax havens such as Panama, Dubai, Monaco, Switzerland and the Cayman Islands.
The names claimed by papers to expose 330 strange politicians of more than 90 countries – from people in the circle in Russian President Vladimir Putin to close the Pakistan Pakistan’s financial supporters and PM Imran Khan.
“My government will investigate all our citizens mentioned in Pandora letters & if there are mistakes set, we will take the appropriate action.
I call the international community to treat this big injustice the same as the climate change crisis,” Imran tweeted on the day Sunday.
“Just as the East Indian company looted Indian wealth, the elite of developing country rulers did the same thing.
Unfortunately, rich countries were not interested in preventing this large-scale robbery or in repatriating the money looted,” he said.
According to the BBC report which quoted a series of the latest letters, former British PM Tony Blair and his Barrisrister’s wife, Cherie did not need to pay £ 312,000 in a stamp assignment when buying a London townhouse £ 6.45 million.
The couple bought property as an office for the Cherie business in 2017 by buying a offshore company that has it, the report said.
ICIJ also claims to have data on at least 500 Indians and alleged links with offshore companies, trust and foundations.
Most Indian entities under the scanner allegedly established a offshore base with the help of the Panama company.
Pandora’s paper investigation is also said to reveal how banks and law firms work together with offshore service providers to design a complex corporate structure.
“The files show that providers don’t always know their customers, despite the legal obligations they are careful not to do business with people involved in questionable transactions,” said the Consortium website.
Towards Sunday’s disclosure, the Panama government wrote to Icij, said it was afraid that the new exposene would pollut its reputation.
“The damage can not be overcome,” said the Panama government in the letter, was sent through a law firm.
The letter warned against “any publication” strengthening the “false perception of” the state as a possible tax protector “will have a destructive consequence for Panama and its people”.
