Pune: When all the norms called for careful use of antivirus and antibacterial to Covid, experts, including those from the National Covid Task Force, becoming increasingly worried about the use of large molnupiravir and azithromycin by doctors, including general practitioners, including treating them with disease light.
Experts say paracetamol and other supportive treatments are good enough to recover from mild diseases.
Only covid patients are not vaccinated and those who have a underlying medical condition can be considered high-risk patients.
They need to be monitored for progress towards severe symptoms and can be treated carefully with antivirus molnupiravir, experts said.
“Molnupiravir is currently not recommended for mild disease management because of the simple benefits in a population that is not vaccinated,” Sanjay Pujayan’s infectious expert, member of the National Covid Task Force.
Although the norms say drugs should not be used in covid patients with minor underlying risk factors, it is still widely prescribed to treat mild disease, Pujari said.
