Tokyo: Vinod Kumar’s thrower discus takes bronze in Tokyo Paralympics, but the results are detained after protests for the classification of disability on Sunday.
Vinod classification in F52, which for athletes with muscle power is disturbed, limited movement range, the deficiency of limbs or the length of the foot difference, carried out on August 22 by the organizer.
It is not clear about the reasons for the challenged classification.
“The results of this event are currently being reviewed because of classification observations in competition.
The victory ceremony has been postponed until the night session on August 30,” read a statement from the game organizer.
Chef de Mission India Gursharan Singh told PTI that Vinod medal stands for now.
“There are protests from one country or maybe more than one, we don’t know because it cannot be disclosed, that there might be a problem with the classification carried out on Vinod before the start of Paralympics,” he said.
“Vinod results, it is bronze, still standing and the decision is not possible today because it is very late now.
Expected tomorrow,” he added.
The 41-year-old BSF man, Vinod, whose father fought in the Indo-Pakistani war in 1971, produced the best throws of 19.91 million to reach bronze.
Vinod also set a record of Asia while winning a bronze medal.
Piotr Kosewicz (20.02M) Poland and Velimir Sandor (19.98m) from Croatia won gold and silver respectively.
He hurt his leg while practicing after joining BSF, falling from the cliff on Leh which made him ride to sleep for a decade where he lost his parents.
