Tokyo: Indian swimmer Suyash Narayan Jadhav and Niranjan Mukundan failed to qualify for the S7 class final from the men’s butterfly event in Tokyo Paralympics here on Friday.
Suyash, who claimed the gold medal in 2018 Asian games in Jakarta, finished fifth in hot 1 after clocking 32.36, 2.65 seconds behind the leader Austin Evan (29.71) from the US.
In hot 2, Mukundan, a 26-year-old player from Bengaluru, finished sixth with 33.82.
Only the top four in every heat are qualified for the final.
In the S7 classification, swimmers have limited leg function or missing legs or parts of the two legs.
This was the first time after 1972 that swimmers compete in the game for India.
