New Delhi: Indian Powerlifters Jaideep Kumar and Sakina Khatun along with coach JP Singh left for the Tokyo Paralympic match on Friday.
Jaideep Kumar will take part in the category of 65 kg Men while Sakina Khatun will compete in the 50 kg category of women.
Both Powerlifter must compete for medals on August 27 in their respective categories.
Hoping for Medals, Jaideep in the release said: “We have trained hard for today.
If everything goes well, we can create history and bring a medal home.” Sakina Khatun is one of ten athletes who interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 17.
PM Modi has praised him as a winner because he is not only struggling with disability but also extreme poverty.
JP Singh, who oversees their performances, is more realistic about opportunities.
He said: “We will not go there with any pressure.
If we do the best and if we have a little luck on that day, our powerlifter will be able to create history.” Chef De Mission Gursharan Singh pointed: “Our powerlifter has trained hard even during their high pandemic and morals.
Their training has made us believe that they are second to none.” The contingent was given warm senders by officials of the Ministry of Sports and Indian sports authorities.
Powerlifting and Badminton are two sports that make their debut at this Paralympic Olympics.
