New Delhi: Subeated Neeraj Chopra, who created history last year by winning the first athletic gold medal at the Olympics, was awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal on Tuesday for its famous service.
Chopra, Subeated with Rifles 4 Rajputana in the Indian Army, has produced a second round of 87.58 million in Javelin throwing the final at the Tokyo Olympics in August 2021 to win a gold medal.
The Indian army on Tuesday released “a list of army personnel given to upset and their leading service on the occasion of the Republican Day 2022”.
Along with Chopra, 18 retired personnel and other retirees from Indian soldiers were awarded the Vishisht Seva Param Medal.
Chopra was given by Arjuna Award in 2018 and Wishist Seva Medal (VSM) in 2020 for its superiority in sports.
Chopra is registered with Rajputana Rifles as a Naib subeable on May 15, 2016.
After joining the Army, he was chosen for training at the ‘Mission Olympiad Wing’ and at the Army Sports Institute, Pune.
The Olympic Wing mission was the initiative by the Indian army to identify and train sportsman who promised in 11 disciplines for various national and international competitions.
