Parents confused ahead of new school year

MYSURU: Many key questions remain unanswered ahead of the 2021-22 academic year.
One of the worst affected sectors by the Covid-19 pandemic, is the education sector.
For the last one year, most of the academic activities in schools have been affected due to the pandemic.
Even in the 2021-22 academic year, parents and students are facing a lot of confusion, even before the start of academic activities.
Parents are alleging that confusion regarding promoting the students to the next class, fee structure, and transfer from one school to another, are causing them a headache.
Meanwhile, the department of public instruction (DPI) authorities informed that last year’s 30% fee concession order is applicable for the new academic year as well.
As per the academic calendar of 2021-22, announced by the DPI, schools are allowed to start the admission process from June 15.
The academic activities will start from July 1.
However, in the city, one of the common complaints of parents is that schools are yet to issue the certificates promoting students, and there is no clarity on issuing transfer certificates.
Many parents who are planning to change schools have been affected by this delay.
Adding to this, a majority of the schools are yet to notify the fee structure, and start the admission process for standard I, which has kept the parents on tenterhooks.
According to the parents, even though the government has directed all the schools to promote the children to the next class, without conducting an examination, in March itself, schools are not issuing the promotion certificates.
To shift the children to other schools, promotion certificates are mandatory.
“If we ask for the promotion certificate, the school heads ask us to wait till a government order is issued in this regard.
They do not agree to update the student’s profile on the Students Tracking System (STS) and issue the transfer certificate online,” allege parents.
According to private school heads, only those students who have paid full or partial fees can be promoted to the next class, while others will be retained in the same class.
“Many students were absent for all the academic activities last year.
Their parents didn’t pay the annual fee.
We promoted only those students who paid the partial or full fee,” said Santosh Kumar, Mysuru district representative of the Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools (KAMS).
Old fee structure will continueMysuru DDPI Panduranga said that the 30% fee waiver order issued by the state government is applicable this year also.
“Last year’s fee reduction order should be followed by the private schools this year also,” he said.
“As per the government order, the fresh admission process will start from June 15.
Transfer certificates should be issued online.
If any parents face a problem, they can lodge a written complaint with us,” he said.
