Kolkata: Receipt of fewer women at the India-Calcutta Institute (IIM-C) this year has been a blow to the Premier B-School efforts to fight towards gender parity in the main flagship MBA program.
While 35% of batch 2020-’22 are women, the ratio has dropped to 31% on batch 2021-’23, the same level as four years ago.
The female ratio at the Institute was almost 16.6% in the 2016-’18 batch before efforts were made – in pre-interview screening and through severe increase in selected lists – to increase ratios of up to 31% in Batch 2017-’19.
Other main IIMs – Iím-Bangalore and IIM-Ahmedabad – also posted better gender diversity and discipline that year.
Faculty members at IIM-C expressed disappointment at a decrease in the gender ratio.
“The IIMS continues to aim to achieve gender parity and encourage more female students to join the Institute.
This DIP in this year’s figure is disappointing.
We hope more women make pieces become IIM-C next year,” said Faculty Member.
This year, 149 in a collection of 480 students were women, down from 171 in 2020.
A year before that, in 2019, only 144 in the 480 times were women.
In 2017, there were 145 women in a batch of 462, up from nearly 77 women who had joined in 2016.
Not confirmed whether fewer women took the public registration exam (cat) this year, the University of Professor’s sociologist and Professor Professor Roy felt one The reason behind swimming in the number of female students who succeeded in reaching IIM-C because of family doubts in investing in general recognition test training, given further investment from RS 23 Lakh needed for the MBA program after.
“Acceptance to IIM involves monetary sacrifice for families.
In the pandemic year, when everyone is affected, the situation becomes more acute.
Some can reconsider and make choices not to register their daughters because of budget constraints,” he said.
