New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation will develop a multilevel automatic parking system in Punjabi Bagh’s crematorium under the RS 33.8-Crore project.
The second largest cremation center in the city currently has the capacity to park 80-90 cars and abundant parking often leads to congestion on the ring road.
This new facility will be able to meet 225 vehicles at a time.
Crematorium is one of the largest facilities in Delhi.
Located on the ring road along the Club Road Flyover.
“Because this facility is located in primary and easily accessible locations, this crematorium is used by a large number of people from the North and Western Delhi region,” an official said.
“Because the surface parking capacity is in the crematorium, there is usually a long queue of vehicles outside the crematorium which results in traffic congestion on the ring road along the flyover throughout the year,” proposal debated by the Commissioner of the Municipality.
“Traffic congestion is likely to increase substantially in this stretch because Park Darshan Bharat is being built around the crematorium and this park is expected to be visited by a large number of people,” said the proposal.
The consultant for this project has proposed three parking puzzle options with a capacity of 225 cars, the tower parking system with 170 car capacity and parking system shuttle with a capacity of 160 cars.
“The parking system puzzle is preferred because of the higher parking capacity, the length of the queue and traffic circulation around the parking lot,” said the official.
From Rs 33.8 Crore, Rs 8.7 CR will be spent on building work, RS 14.1CR on parking equipment and Rs 10.9 Cr in the operation and maintenance of parking systems for 10 years.
Previously, the Civic Agency had approved a similar automatic parking system at Amar Colony, Greater Kailash and near Nizamuddin Basti.
The automatic parking system has been operating at Green Park and Lajpat Nagar, while the parking project in Adhchini is almost complete.
