Patients who need in Kolkata to get free spinal surgery

Kolkata: Operation Straight Spine (OSS) will immediately carry out complex spinal procedures for free for disadvantaged patients in Kolkata as part of the ‘spinal deformment operation mission’.
This project will take off at the Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital (Jimsh) in February next year.
The spinal surgeon from India and around the world will conduct a correction operation of the deformity at the Budge Budge Institute.
“Registration and filtering has begun for patients who will undergo surgery.
We also plan to conduct a screening camp in the district to choose patients who need this operation, but cannot afford,” said Ujjwal Debnath, Orthopedic Professor, Orthopedic & Spinal Operations Department at Jimsh.
This complex spinal surgery can cost between Rs 10-12 lakh in a private hospital.
A conference on February 20 will overtake the surgical workshop that must be attended by the faculty of international surgeons, anesthesis, nurses and paramedics from the United States, Britain, Europe besides them from India.

Previously, OSS had touched two other institutions in Kolkata – Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan in Kolkata, IPGMER & SSKM Hospital in 2020.
