PATNA: Almost 52 percent of those mucormycosis patients have been treated in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences-Patna (AIIMS-P) and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) are from the age group of 40 to 59 decades, claim physicians.
Both hospitals are declared centers of excellence for its treatment and efficient management of this fatal disease.
According to physicians, around 60 percent of those mucormycosis patients undergoing therapy in the AIIMS-P along with the IGIMS are diabetic or afflicted by comorbidities.
The rest are infected as a result of immunosuppression as a consequence of both Covid-19 along with the unwarranted use of steroids.
Reiterating the physicians’ claim,” an official of the medical division pointed out that many mucormycosis instances were being diagnosed with people, that belonged to this age group of 40 to 59 decades.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar, the nodal officer for Covid-19 in the AIIMS-P, told this reporter on Saturday the mucormycosis was mostly affecting men at the age group of 40 to 59 decades.
“All individuals who had received large levels of steroids throughout Covid therapy are afflicted by the disorder,” he added.
Of those 119 mucormycosis patients admitted to this AIIMS-P up to now, 37 were also discharged and 19 perished.
Individuals being treated in the hospital also contained three children in the Begusarai, Siwan and Buxar, that had been under age 12 decades.
Dr Manish Mandal, the superintendent of this IGIMS, stated,”The bacterial disease is largely attacking diabetics at the age range of 40 to 59 decades.
In addition, it has claimed the lives of individuals over age 45.” Of those 100 mucormycosis sufferers, that were admitted into the IGIMS for therapy, 63 were all discharged and 40 expired.
While 38 percent of those mucormycosis patients in the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital have been in the age range of 40 to 55 decades, 37 percent are in the 30-39 age category.
The hospital nodal officer for Covid, Dr Mukul Kumar Singh, pointed out,”People over age 40 decades normally have low resistance, which drops farther if they contract Covid-19.” The Patna Medical College and Hospital, on the flip side, is treating 21 mucormycosis sufferers currently.
Six individuals have succumbed to this fungal disease up to now.
