Patna: City air quality turns ‘poor’ on Tuesday and is likely to deteriorate further with the fall of temperature and calm wind.
The air quality index (AQI) on Patna at 16:00 is 242, considered ‘poor’ in accordance with the Central Pollution Control Agency (CPCB) bulletin.
Environmental lovers state that air pollution, especially PM2.5 (particle material of less than 2.5 million) and PM10 (particle material less than 10 microns), increases during this period this year with the fall of temperature and anthropogenic speed.

Bihar State Pollution Control Instructions (BSPCB) Official states that the whole AQI 242 for Patna is the average level of AQI in Bit-intimate, Patna (318), Eco Park (303), SK Memorial Hall (286), DRM Office (286) , DRM -Khagaul (164) and Patna City (142).
AQI is considered good if it is between zero and 50, ‘poor’ between 201 and 300, ‘very poor’ between 301 and 400 and ‘severe’ if it occurs in the range of 401-500.
The ‘poor’ aqi basically means that people may suffer from an uncomfortable breath on the old exposure to the air.
BSPCB Chairman Ashok Ghosh said the wind speed and direction, weather conditions, anthropogenic activities, and local conditions from the region (vehicle movement, construction work) determined the level of pollution of certain air monitoring stations.
“That’s why the AQI level of some regions is more than that.
In addition, the temperature has begun to fall 2-3 degrees Celsius with winter onset,” he told this newspaper.
“Because of the weather transition, there is a thermal inversion formation (colder soil than air) in the atmosphere, which has reduced vertical wind movements that cause very low pollutant dispersion, especially particles,” he added.
Some studies have found that the state in the Indo-Gangetic plains, including Bihar, bears maximum exposure to particles, because of its geographical region.
To curb pollutants in the air, the pollution council has decided to take steps to control various pollution sources, including open construction work and open construction material movements, conversion of brick burning into zigzag settings and biomedical waste management.
Ghosh said BSPCB would send a letter to all district judges to ensure that the screen used in construction activities and materials discussed during transportation.
“During the winter, construction activities increased but no one used a screen that led to the level of PM2.5.
We will impose environmental compensation (EC) to those who violate the norm.
National Green Tribunal (NGT) has given the right to the Council to apply EC about norm violations.

“As far as concerning a brick kiln, almost 5,000 of them have been converted into green technology.
There is no other country that has achieved this achievement.
The remaining kiln will be converted soon.

Fly ash, coal remnants, is a problem for thermal power.
