Patna: The genome sequencing test at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) has been stopped because of lack of reagent.
An Igim official said the service was stopped because the availability of reagents needed to detect the omicron of Coronavirus variant.
Dr.
Namrata Kumari, Head of the Microbiology Department of the Igims, said, “We do not have a stock of reagents in our microbiology laboratory.
Therefore, the genome sequencing test has been stopped for now.
We are not sure when will begin again.” Dr Manish Mandal, Medical Supervisor of Igims, Saying, “We have told the health department about the reagent noisiness.
The department has ordered the same thing.
Reagents are imported from the US.
We have learned that the reagent has reached Delhi and it will come to Patna in the next few days.” Igims is one- The only Institute in Bihar which has a sequencing genome facility that starts in January 2.
The genome sequencing is needed to detect the omicron coronavirus variant in infected people.
This is the process of analyzing all types of viruses owned by patients.
Omicron or delta variants from viruses can be detected only through genome sequencing and reports also come in 7 days.
At least 68 cases of omicron infection have been detected since this service starts in IGIM.
