Pb: 42% in hospitals with Covid have symptoms of neuro

Chandigarh: Neurological symptoms have been significantly reported in Covid-19 patients who were hospitalized in Punjab, with around 42% of infected individuals reported this during illness, according to a study conducted in various hospitals.
In the study of the “neurological manifestation of Covid-19 inpatients in the state of the Punjab”, data from a total of 1,000 inpatient cases reported between November 2020 and April 2021 were analyzed.
Of the most common neurological symptoms such as headaches and hyposmia (loss of odor), serious complications such as seizures and strokes have been recorded among hospitalized patients in the state.
Experts call the constant monitoring of patients who are critically ill to see the development of neurological symptoms.
Of the total participants, 62.5% were men and 37.5% of women while the most common comorbid in patients was a hypertension of 34.8%, diabetes mellitus 18.8%, ischemic heart disease 8.2% and cerebrovascular disease 5.2%.
A total of 672 patients, which contributed 67.2% of the total participants, showed neurological symptoms.
The most common neurological symptoms exhibited by patients are headaches 313 (31.3%) and dizziness 112 (11.2%), followed by hyposmia 52 (5.2%), encephalopathy 78 (7.8%) and complications More seriously like a seizure 18 (1.8%) and stroke 28 (2.8%).
A total of 36 patients presented with encephalopathy, while 78 (7.8%) developed encephalopathy while living in hospitals.
Another general presentation manifestation was a fever of 945 (94.5%), cough 643 (64.3%), and a difficult or severe dispuiting – 476 (47.6%).
The results of the study revealed that neurological manifestations were the presentation feature in 58 (5.8%) while at least 42% of patients experienced neurological involvement during illness.
The study found that many covid patients presented with vascular and inflammatory neurological diseases such as stroke, guillain-barre syndrome (GBS) and palsy nerve faces have mild or no respiratory symptoms.
Thus, experts recommend that all patients present acute neurological diseases screen for Covid-19 during a pandemic, the researchers emphasize that patients infected with risky comorbidity and monitoring of neurological symptoms is very important because it not only shows negatives and positive developments from their condition, But it will also help prevent the deterioration of patient health.
The research findings have been published in a special edition in Covid-19 from Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science.
“The patients present with new neurology of new focus, with or without the presence of Coryzal symptoms, must be reviewed and treated with suspicion of SARS-COV-2 infection.
All of these monitoring will enable early detection of Covid-19 infection and, therefore, will leads to prevention of decreasing disease, “concluded research.
