Gurdaspur: Border Security Force (BSF) was injured in fire exchanges with Pakistani smugglers cross-border on Friday, which led to the recovery of 57.9 kg of heroin along with weapons and ammunition.
BSF Dig, Gurdaspur Sector, Prabhakar Joshi said that after the Patrol BSF saw several suspicious movements on the Indian-Pakistani international border in the Chandu Wadala border area at around 5:10 a.m., the police chief Gyan Singh challenged the criminals, who opened fire on them, forced Gyan Singh and Constable Raju Biswas to take retaliation.
During the exchange of fire, Gyan Singh suffered a bullet injury in hand and head and was evacuated to the Nanak Dev teacher hospital in Amritsar.
All smugglers escape when BSF opened fire, leaving drugs, arms and ammunition.
Joshi said that the search area produced 57.9 kg of heroin in a 47 package, 7 Package Opium 1 made by Norinco Pistol with 2 magazines, 44 rounds of caliber, 74 AK-47 rounds with 4 magazines, 1 9mm Pietro Beretta pistol with 1 magazine other than shawls, exhaust, and hat.
The source said Pakistani smugglers have fired a shot from across the border and can be assisted by Rangers Pakistan.
