Chandigarh: When campaigning for the election of the Punjab council ended on February 12, political parties in the state will get only 34 days to comb under the code of ethics – tools that are considered important to provide the election field in elections in India.
In the direction of the Election Commission data show that for the third time in a row, the code of ethics has been charged less than 40 days in the election of the assembly of Punjab.
In 2017, the parties had just received 29 days to campaign under the poll code in Punjab – the shortest duration.
This time, campaigning under the code is the shortest the fourth among all assembly polls held in the state since 1967.
In 2007, the duration was 35 days.
In 2002 and 2007, 59 days and 44 days each.
While the behavioral code model operates, the petelling government cannot announce schemes and projects and the cost of the new party and candidate is closely monitored.
Parties can run a mass campaign up to two days before the voting day.
That is why the campaign for February 14 elections will end on February 12.
Including this election, there are only five times when the party campaigned under the code less than 40 days.
Apart from 2017 and 2012, the period was the shortest in 1977 (31 days), 1985 (34 days) and 1992 (33 days).
