Chandigarh: Detection of 50 Cases of Breakthrough Infection – Patients who contracted the Covid virus after vaccinated – in Punjab in recent months have underlined the need for people not to let their guard down and continue to follow safety norms even after getting piercing.
In addition to the breakthrough infection, around 30 cases of re-infection have also been recorded in the country in recent months.
These are cases where patients restored developed symptoms and tested positive Covid-19 and had to undergo more treatment.
No death between such patients has been reported in a state so far.
Uninfected people have not come as a surprise for health experts as an anti-covid vaccine does not provide full protection.
However, vaccines do reduce the severity of infection and opportunities for death.
The PAN-India study by the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR), which was recently published, has held a very contagious Delta variant (B.1.6172) to be the main reason for breakthrough infections.
In Punjab, Delta, which is said to be 50% more contagious than other Covid lineages, is the most common variant.
If it is not controlled, it spreads at a faster speed, resulting in an increase in hospitalization and death.
In accordance with the latest data from the SARS-COV-2 Genomium Consortium (Insacog), a total of 2,072 samples have been positively tested for variants of concerns that accounts for 4% of the total variants of concerns detected in the country.
Of the total, 838 samples are Delta variants.
A sample of breakthrough infections and patients who contracted the virus for the second time had been sent to the sequencing of the genome to ensure whether they carry the old virus or mutant tension.
Explain the reason for this, Punjab Covid-19 Nodal Officer Dr.
Rajesh Bhaskar said the breakthrough and re-infection mostly occur among people with low immune levels.
He urged people to continue wearing masks, avoiding crowded places, maintaining social distance and hand hygiene – even after restoring and taking vaccine shots.
According to health experts, protective antibodies developed by patients restored cannot remain in the body for more than six months.
The antibody level starts to fall quickly after the virus is removed from the body.
Dr.
Rakesh Kumar Gupta, President of the Strategic Education and Community Health Research (Sopher) establishes pressure on people who continue to take precautions and follow the appropriate Covid protocol / guidelines even after vaccinated.
Dr.
Gupta further said that there is a possibility of an increase in the number of re-infection in the future because it has been more than a year since the pandemic breaks and immunity in recovering patients is for a very limited time.
The rate of vaccination Covid has chosen the steps in Punjab, but has not yet pursued behind neighboring countries.
In the last 15 days, health authorities were vaccinated 92,144 people on average per day.
Over the past two weeks, the highest 3,38,892 individuals were immunized on August 24.
The daily count of vaccination is recorded more than one lakh in nine days.
