Chennai: The second wave of Covid and the closure of unlimited educational institutions has led to an increase in desktop, laptops and tablets of 40-50% year-on-year (yoy) in the April to June period.
Notebooks (laptops) continue to hold a majority part, become the most sought-after computing device.
Analysts said that one device per person in the family emerged as a norm as a remote work and learning continued to provide a big boost to the private computing market.
The brand also reports the availability of healthy channels, and most global vendors prioritize growth market inventories such as India, they add.
The Indian PC market (including desktop, notebook and workstation) recorded a growth of 50.5% yoy delivery in April to June, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC).
As many as 3.2 million pcs were sent in the quarter, with all product categories that reported strong double-digit growth despite the absence of large education and government agreements, IDC said.
IDC data shows that the consumer segment grew more than 110% YoY and about 6% sequentially in April-June because the learning at home pushed demand.
Commercial segments grow yoy 14% simple as a company – especially IT and ITES companies – continue to buy to manage the ongoing home-of-home scenario.
HP, Dell and Lenovo emerged as the top three brands with market share of 34%, 22% and 18%, according to IDC estimates.
IDC India Research Manager (Client Device) Jaipal Singh said that the school and educational institutions were closed indefinitely changed the learning on a smartphone to buy a laptop for long-term use and factors such as protecting their vision.
The purchase of laptops by the company increases because long distance work continues and desktop purchases are supported by BFSI and other sectors, he added.
Rushabh Doshi, Director at the Canalys Research Firm, said the PC vendor now has two major business opportunities in front of them – PC users for the first time and upgrades.
“With a mounted base has detonated massively last year, increasing opportunities will provide a strong long-term sales pipe.” Canalys recorded a growth of 42% YoY in delivery in April-June.
Lenovo PC vendors see demand for premiumization because consumers are looking for better features, given higher, longer use.
There is a request for a flexible machine with a better battery life, a larger screen size for tablets, and better processing quality and display quality so that PC works can double as a device to play games and entertainment, said Lenovo PCS India.
The problem of lack of components remains a problem for this sector, but analysts note that the rate of lack of order and backlog is reduced.
Analyst Research Director Gartner Mikako Kitagawa said that considering the specifications, the company’s PC market was relatively higher with semiconductor deficiencies, while the consumer market was not affected.
