New Delhi: The Professional Cricketers Association (PCA) strives to bring changes in the “obsolete” system that forces British Cricketers without the middle contract to pay for their annual salary proportions to their districts for missing games because of the Indian Premier League.
According to the system, English Cricketers without the middle contract must pay 1 percent of their annual salary to their district for the first 21 days they miss due to their IPL involvement and then 0.7% further for the following days.
“There was a formula that was put down in 2010 cuts from the County salary for those who took part in IPL,” Daryl Mitchell, director of the PCA cricket operation, told Espncricinfo.
“We have requests from members about it and we feel as if it needs to be updated, and there needs to be a conversation around what it is that formula.” Sam Billings (Kent / Delhi Capitals), Chris Jordan (Sussex / Punjab Kings), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire / Rajasthan Royals) and Dawid Malan (Yorkshire / Punjab Kings) are four English players without this year’s middle contract before Covid-19 imposes a delay IPL in April.
Tom Banton and Harry Gurney are also in the same position in the last season.
“I think everyone will agree that the cricketing world has changed substantially since 2010 and explained the British attitude in connection with the players playing in the IPL has changed,” Mitchell said, who led the newly formed advocacy group.
“In 2010, it was almost a prevention step to try and prevent as many players as possible from going to IPL; Now, the ECB encourages the English players to go and experience the tournament because of the benefits obtained from playing in it.” Players also need to replace their territory based on average pro to compete in a hundred.
So the number ends more than half of their annual salary for those involved in IPL too.
“This is a significant pieces and in our view, too high,” Mitchell said.
“We truly believe that the district needs to compensate and we do not stay away from the fact that players spend far away time – there must be some compensation when the district loses their players to the window.
We just say it needs to be reviewed and look – it’s worn and need to change.
