Diphu: A drug seller suspected of being shot by the Assam police when he was suspected of trying to escape from detention in the Karbi Anglong Regency on Monday, a senior officer said.
Acting on the tip-off, the police team intercepted a truck around 1.30 in the morning at the checkpoint in the Bokajan area under the limit of the Khatkhati police station and arrested two people, including drug smugglers, because heroin worth around Rs 20 Crore recovered from their ownership, the officer said that.
The truck comes from Manipur.
During the introduction interrogation, both of them acknowledged that they planned to provide smuggle to the nearest area, he said.
“When they were taken to the delivery point, one of the drug vendors complained about anxiety and was taken out of the police vehicle.
He then tried to escape from there and police personnel opened fire on his legs,” he explained.
The man had been treated at the Diphu Medical College and the hospital and his condition was said to be stable, the officer said.
