Pedestrian-friendly plan for 106 intersections in Gurugram

Gurugram: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has chosen at least 106 intersections in the city for changes that will make them safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, officials said on Monday.
These steps, officials hope, will also help in better traffic management.
Changes in the consideration of GMDA include the creation of zebra crossings, lane paintings and median markers, and regulates Bollard traffic where needed.
This problem was raised for discussion during the latest meeting of core planning cells (BPK) from GMDA.
According to Privy officials for this problem, the Chief Executive Officer GMDA (CEO) Sudhir Rajpal has directed the wings of the mobility to take such changes in around 40 crossings in the first phase of priority, after the same can be replicated at other intersections in the city too.
“At present, the plan is being considered and is awaiting approval.
It requires taking a few steps of small road safety at the intersection,” said a senior GMDA official at the request of anonymity.

Residents, meanwhile, said such plans would bring very much needed assistance in the city they claim had little infrastructure to support pedestrians or non-motorized transportation.
“I chose to rent a house in phase 5 in other parts of the city because I believe everything market, mall and metro will be accessible.
However, the lack of facilities for pedestrians makes me impossible to move without motorized vehicles, both public or private.
