Peelels ‘Mosambi’ to eliminate cancer: IIT-BHU Research

Varanasi: Researchers in IIT (BHU) claim that the skin ‘Mosambi’ (Citrus Limetta) can be used to prevent cancer and diseases that threaten other lives.
“In fact, researchers at Biochemical Engineering Schools, IIT (BHU) have synthesized adsorbents that are environmentally friendly and cost-effective, which can eliminate poisonous heavy metal ions such as chromium hexavalents from contaminated water and waste water,” said Dr.
Vishal Mishra.
, Associate Professor, School of Biochemical Engineering.
Dr.
Mishra and his students Veer Singh has published this study in the International Journal ‘Separation and Technology Science’.
He said that the Hexavalent Chromium is responsible for several types of health problems in humans such as various types of cancer, liver and kidneys and liver damage, and skin problems.
This is a new environmentally friendly product, synthesized from Biomass Citrus Limetta (Mausmi).
This adsorbent is very effective for removing hexavalent chromum from waste water compared to other conventional methods and requires less time for chromium hexavalents from aqueous solution.
According to Dr.
Mishra, this adsorbent can be easily separated from runny media after a metal removal process.
The researchers have tested the capacity of the removal of the hexavalent chromum of this adsorbent in synthetic simulation wastewater and has found satisfactory results.
The efficiency of the removal of heavy metals from adsorbents is also tested for other heavy metal ions, such as lead and cadmium, and find the efficiency of the removal of heavy metals that arise from these adsorbents.
He said that in developing countries, the disease that was transmitted through water was the main problem.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every year 3.4 million people, most children, die of diseases related to water.
According to the assessment of UN children’s funds (UNICEF), 4,000 children die every day because of the water intake contaminated with bacteria.
Who reports that more than 2.6 billion people do not have access to clean water, which is responsible for around 2.2 million deaths every year, where 1.4 million are children.
Improving water quality can reduce the disease transmitted through global water.
Cancer due to hexavalent chromium and other heavy metal ions is a heavy problem throughout the world.
Reports from the Ministry of Water Resources said that a large number of Indian residents drink water with a toxic lahal metal level.
Regarding the socio-economic aspects of this study, Dr.
Mishra said that this research was focused on cost-effective, environmentally friendly to remove heavy metal ions from water.
Limetta orange skin is available as a fruit waste.
The adsorbent synthesis of this and Chitosan is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly method.
