Melbourne: American Jessica Pegula surprised the fifth seed strong Maria Sakkari flew to the second Australian Open quarter-final on Sunday.
The 21st seed stormed the first tiebreak and made his feet into gas in beating Greece 7-6 (7/0), 6-3 at the Margaret Court Arena.
He will play the number one world and Ashleigh Barty’s favorite title or Conqueror Naomi Osaka Amanda Anisimova for a place in the semi-finals.
“That must be my best match this year,” said Pegula, who had relaxed in Melbourne by playing Blackjack in a local casino.
“I thought I was very good back, I wanted to press the service and I felt I did it.
I tried to be patient and played asmer.” The 27-year-old Pegula, the father of Terry billionaire has a bill Buffalo NFL Club, also made the last eight in 2021, when he lost to fellow American Jennifer Brady.

He got a break in the second set to move 4-1 and survived to win when Sakkari slapped backhand wide.
