Sao Paulo: Big Brazilian soccer Pele has returned to the hospital for a routine examination, his business manager told Reuters on Thursday when he had treatment after experiencing intestinal tumors removed last year.
ESPN network TV sports reported the previous day that Pele, 81, was back at Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo for a new chemotherapy session.
ESPN said he was diagnosed with a tumor in the intestine, one in the heart and another in the lungs, and will undergo a new test to find other possible cancer places.
Pele said in a stable condition and could leave the hospital on Thursday, but because of fragile conditions, he would be closely watched.
The hospital press office said it did not have information about Pele’s inpatient care.
World Cup winners three times undergoing surgery to lift large intestinal tumors in September 2021 and spend almost a month under care.
He was hospitalized again last month for the chemotherapy session and was dumped in December 23.
It is widely considered one of the biggest players of all time, Pele has suffered a series of health problems in recent years, including hip operations that make it with recurrence and difficulty walking without help.
Pele reduced the public appearance in several times, especially because the Covid-19 pandemic attacked, but remained active in social media.
Earlier this week, he posted a video on Instagram to congratulate Portugal Cristiano Ronaldo after Manchester United’s star received a special award from FIFA.
