Ahmedabad: Ukabhai Solanki, a retired teacher, has lost Rs 1.67 lakh his retirement money, which has been sucked by criminals using an ATM cloning card.
Solanki now only has Rs 471 on the account.
The money was taken for seven days from July 7 to 14.
Solanki, a resident of Bubiaagar, maintains an account at the Saraspur branch of a nationalized bank.
The retirement is credited every month into this account.
Solanki submitted a complaint of fraud with police Bubiaagar on Thursday.
Timesviewover for the past two years, there is a steep increase in senior citizens being an easy target of cybercrooks.
These criminals are close to the elderly while pretending to offer technical support, or government assistance and services or even fishing them with online friendship requests calling for extortion.
The Cybercrime department, such as in Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, must start a campaign targeted to increase awareness among senior citizens and armed them with a simple strategy to avoid such traps and lose money obtained with difficulty.
“According to FIR, Solanki went to the bank to check the account balance.
He planned some fees.
When he saw a lot of withdrawal entries in his Passbook, he was surprised.
He had not used an ATM card for the transaction and claimed that the card was with him at the time of violations,” said a investigator.
The defendant pulled up to RS 15,000 while traveling and using a card almost every day for a week.
“The probe is active to ensure the identity of the person or person who has visited the ATM for withdrawal,” said investigators.
“The bank concerned has also been approached to get more details.”
