New Delhi: Even when the Delhi police team met with a farmer delegation near the Singhu border, riot exercise was conducted in the city, including the red fort, in front of the planned farmer protest near the parliament during the Monsun session to demand three new agricultural laws.
During the conversation, the police refused to allow meetings in Mantar or Parliament to Jantar on July 22, or on another day.
The police asked the metro for extra vigils at 7 stations quoted by violence during the January 26 farmer tractor marching as one of the reasons to reject permission, in addition to the implications of the fear and security of Covid-19 of the planned protests.
No consensus achieved at the meeting and second round conversation was likely on Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Delhi police also wrote to Delhi Metro to maintain extra vigils at seven metro stations and closed it if needed in a short time, given the protest of farmers near parliament from Monday.
Police urged DMRC to close Janpath, Lok Kalyan Marg, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Bath House, and Bhawan Udyog Station on Monday.
This is the second time that the farmers protest the planned protest like that in the heart of Delhi.
Previously on January 26, farmers had made a tractor rally which ended with clashes with police personnel when several agitators deviated from the agreed route and went to the red fortress, where they unfurled the religious flag on a historic monument.
The incident resulted in injury to more than 500 police officers.
Regarding the training, the police said that they were being carried out after the protest of farmers and the celebration of the upcoming independence day.
Some police teams scenario simulation to test their readiness.
The farmer leaders told reporters after the meeting that the police had offered them alternative sites for demonstrations and asked trade unions to reduce the number of protesters, but they have declined.
Farmers plan to intensify their stirring for almost eight months by sending a strong protester team for agitation in the parliament building.
They should march from the Singhu border to Parliament but there are plans that are being used to use the bus too, said a senior police officer.
Like the last time, farmer leaders said participating protesters would be given an identity card and a list of names and routes to be distributed.
Ani’s news agency quoted a statement from Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) which stated that the Ninemember Coordination Committee from SKM met with the commissioner with Delhi police on Sunday.
“Police Delhi believes that the farm movement does not have a planned siege for parliament or forcibly entering it.
Meanwhile, preparations for parliamentary protests in full swing in the SKM contingent.
Around 200-350 farmers from various countries will protest on every working day of parliament,” SKM said as quoted.
