NEW DELHI: Nursing mothers should be invited and permitted to operate in the home for no less than a year following the arrival of the child throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, both the labor and labour ministry advised countries and Union Territories in an advisory issued Tuesday, reports Swati Mathur.
The advisory, the most recent in a series of steps rolled from the labor ministry to expand social security to the working class inhabitants, stated claims and UTs should make enabling provisions at the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017, allowing girls to avail maternity benefits while they’re nursing kids.
At the probate, joint secretary Vibha Bhalla reported this practice ought to be invited in regions at which the nature of employment delegated to some girl is that she can operate at home.
“The employer might enable her to do this after availing of this maternity benefit to the time and on mutually agreeable states,” the authorities stated.
The movement, the Centre explained, would allow expectant mothers to stay employed throughout the pandemic period and could also ramp up women’s involvement in the labor force.
