Panaji: North Goa coastline – almost overall includes three talukas – has been flooded with tar balls because popular beaches have been randomized by oily clot deposits for the past few days.
The turbulent sea seems to have coughed sticky problems with revenge since Friday.
Crude oil exchanged with various processes is being stored along the coast from Keri on the border of the north coast of Goa in Pernem, from Vagator to Candolim in Bardez and Miramaro in Tiswadi.
In Pernem Taluka, all the beaches, Keri, Arambol, Mandrem and Morjim have been carpeted by film deposition and large tar balls.
“It’s hard to walk on the beach when sticky material has swept ashand and some tar balls are as big as Buffalo Dung,” said a resident of Morjim Village.
From between the hordes of tourists seen on the beach because of a long vacation, those who entered the water complained about irritation and difficulty washing oil thick.
Episode Tar Ball – One of the worst in North Goa in the past few years – also has a vagator and a long stretch of Bardez coastline from Baga to Sinquerim, said sources.
Oily material and large pieces of tar balls are seen on Miramar Beach so it is difficult for tourists and visitors walk on the beach.
“In Calacra and Siridao, the waters of the smell and someone can get sticky material when entering water,” said Sanjay Pereira, a fisherman.
The tar ball is the remnants of oil spills or produced from natural seepages.
“The wind and waves tear the oil slippery into smaller fillings spread in a much wider area.
Various physical, chemical and biological processes (weathering) change the appearance of oil,” a study by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), stated.
The problem can arise from several factors, including the release of clandestine by vessels and oil spills at sea.
“We have seen that it does not occur in other coastal waters.
This is because the government itself is environmentally friendly and they protect their water from pollution.
Our government and country need to be responsible for protecting the environment,” said Captain Venzy Vientegas, said Master Mariner.
The coastal cleaning work has begun in some stretch but the source said it would be a difficult job as a broad stretch of coastline has been truly hidden by oily problems.
