BHUBANESWAR: AIIMS Bhubaneswar will install a PET-CT Scan (positron emission tomography-computer tomography), a high-end testing machine within the next two to three months.
The machine will be most helpful for diagnosis of cancer patients.
“The institute has placed purchased order for procurement of the machine in March and around Rs 18 crore will be spent on this,” said Sachidananda Mohanty, medical superintendent of AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Work on its installation and commissioning got delayed due to second wave of Covid-19.
The installation is expected to be completed within the next two months.
He said AIIMS Bhubaneswar will be the first public hospital in the state to install a PET-CT.
“This machine will help in the treatment of cancer patients and other critical surgical cases.
It will benefit poor and needy patients of the state,” he added.
After commissioning of this machine at AIIMS, poor patients will get free diagnosis while others will need to pay nominal charge.
The hospital will also install more such machines in future to improve cancer patient care.
