Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday rearranged the State Minority Commission and appointed Senior Congress leader S Peter Alphonse as chairman.
Former MIN minister’s Mr.
Karutanidhi formed a commission in 1989 to protect the interests of religious minorities and linguistics and their rights.
The emphasis of commissions is the socio-economic development and minority education.
The DMK government also enforced the Minority Commission of Tamil Nadu, 2010, giving legal force.
The Commission has the power of a civil court.
Alphonse was chosen from the constituency of the Tencasi Council in 1989 and 1991 and from the Constituency of the Kadayanallur Assembly in 2006.
He was a former member of Rajya Sabha and Executive Member of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.
He was a close partner of the leader of the Veteran Congress late G K Moopanar.
He sided with the son of Moopanar G K Vasan when the last revived TMC in 2014.
He returned to the parent party in 2016 did not agree with the ties of people’s wedding in the election of welfare.
