Bratislava: Superstar Cycling Slovak Peter Sagan will pass through the Tokyo Olympics because of the injury he took during the De France tour, the Slovak Olympic Committee said on Tuesday.
Three-year-old world champion from 2015-2017 and winners seven times from the Tour de France Green Sprint Points Jersey injured his knees at Bunch Sprint Fall in stage three.
Injuries became infected, forcing Bora Hansgrohe riders to pull forward stage 12 last Thursday.
“After withdrawing from the Tour de France, Peter Sagan underwent knee surgery at Monaco,” the Committee said in a statement.
“Infections do not affect the knee joint, but the operation and health problems have been prevented (sagan) from traveling to Tokyo,” he added.
In the previous Olympic appearance, Sagan finished 34 in the Race Race in London in 2012 and 35 in a mountain bike cross-country race in Rio 2016.
