Washington: Pfizer asked the US government Thursday to allow the use of Covid-19 vaccines in children aged 5 to 11 – and if the regulator agreed, shots could begin in a matter of weeks.
Many parents and pediatricians are renamedful for protection for younger children than 12, today’s age cutoff for vaccines made by Pfizer and German partner Biontech.
Young children are sometimes not only seriously ill, but keeping them in school can be a challenge with Coronavirus still raging in unvaccinated communities.

Now the FDA must decide whether there is enough evidence that a safe shot and will work for younger children as they do for teenagers and adults.
Independent expert panels will openly debate evidence on October 26.
One big change: Pfizer said his research showed that younger children had to get a third of the doses given to others.
After their second dose, children aged 5 to 11 years developed an antibody level of virus fighting as strongly with teenagers and young adults originating from ordinary power shots.
While children have a low risk of severe disease or death than parents, Covid-19 sometimes kills children and cases in children have skyrocketed as a contagious Delta variant has hit the country.
“It made me very happy that I helped other children get a vaccine,” said Sebastian Prybol, 8, from Raleigh, North Carolina.
