Thiruvananthapuram: The Ministry of Health has spent postgraduate medical students for the task of Sabarimala as a specialist in medical centers that have been established in various places from Nilackal to Sannidhanam.
However, PG Medicos decided not to join the task because they stated that they were exploited instead of appointing senior specialist doctors for pilgrimage assignments.
“The Kerala Medical Postgraduate Association has decided not to obey the decision taken by the Ministry of Health to send PG residents for the duty of the Sabarimala being disguised as a specialist,” said Dr.
Naveen R, Secretary of State Association.
“We have exploited with limits and this must stop.
We have sacrificed our special training period for the past two years because the country is in a crisis because of the situation of the pandemic,” said Dr.
Ashok, president of the State Association.
Residents of PG have taken extra tasks in all medical college hospitals and in several covid centers when the situation demanded it.
There are only two PG Medicos batches at this time in Country Counseling and Neet PG for fresh batches not yet begun.
Instead of posting specialists who qualify with postgraduate degrees in each of them from the Directorate of Medical Education or Directorate of Health Services, the authorities are trying Gimmick using existing PG students and are very overworked, said Dr.
Naveen.
The department of virtual emergency treatment planned in Sabarimala was being established with PG residential services by collecting various departments of various medical colleges.
There is a lack of permanent staff in the emergency medical department and therefore PG Medicos is exploited to cover this shortcoming.
This is contrary to our curriculum set by the University of Kerala University and most of us have completed the task of the victim needed.
Therefore the Ministry of Health must make alternative settings instead of putting us on the duty of the Sabarimala, said Dr.
Akash, secretary of Thiruvananthapuram unit of medical college association.
