Noida: Children with rare genetic diseases in Gautam Budh Nagar and adjacent districts will no longer be in a hurry to Delhi or Lucknow for care, as a Super Pediatric Hospital and Postgraduate Teaching Institute (SSPHPTI), also known as children PGI, becomes the second.
Facilities at Uttar Pradesh to start the dedicated department of patiabah after SGPGIMS in the state capital.
The department will focus on the diagnosis and management of children with dysmorphology, congenital metabolic problems, and rare disturbances.
It will also offer fetal autopsy procedures, prenatal diagnosis, prenatal and peri-conceptional counseling for couples with repeated spontaneous abortions or poor midwifery histories, among others.
Dr.
Mayak Nilay, Assistant Professor in the New Medical Genetics Department, said, “It is a myth that genetic disorders cannot be treated.
In this era of molecular drugs and rare disease therapy, many disorders and diseases can be treated with the help of gene therapy and other procedures .
“According to Dr.
Nilay, who had previously worked in the medical genetic department at SGPGIMS, said the full OPD began around December 15.
“We have seen several children with intellectual disability, Dysmorphic features and congenital defects.
Previously, such patients were referred to AIIM in Delhi or SGPGIMS in Lucknow,” he added.
The department also plans to start various types of genetic tests, such as various cytogenetic and molecular testing, at the Institute soon.
The department will also be actively involved in research, academics and training doctors.
Doctors departments and basic scientists will work together to provide advanced services in diagnostics and rare management, including pre and post genetic counseling.
