Thiruvananthapuram: The first phase of D-Safe, a project by Kerala police which aims to make parents aware of hidden dangers in increasing the use of cellphones by children, has been completed in the district.
With a pandemic that leads to online class, school students can often use frequent cellphones and this in turn also makes them vulnerable to cybercrimes.
Kerala Police have come up with a training program for parents to ensure children’s safety during online study time.
The training program called Digital Safe is being applied as collaboration with UNICEF, children and police cadets and police.
The project aims to promote safe internet use and protect children and others from abuse and online violence.
In the first stage of training, 1,500 parents completed a session in five phases in this district.
“We focus on parents because it is their reaction to situations that sometimes make the most cases worse.
This can even cause suicide among children.
So, it is important for parents to know that they must behave well with children Their child by giving them the right advice.
Parents will also be able to prevent such events, “said Sabu Neelakanan Nair, the principal coach of the project.
Classes are given to parents by presenting 11 real-life cyber cases handled by Kerala Police.
Topics include cyber intimidation, online class intrusion, film piracy, online games and account takeovers, online defiation, online nudity, child pornography, cellular addiction, unauthorized access, online drug sales and sharing user credentials discussed among parents.
The classes also provide information about legal implications, become safe online and contacts to seek immediate help.
The main topic discussed is how parents must react when they know that their child is a victim of virtual world crime or has committed a crime.
Topics are presented to parents by examining the information provided by the teachers.
It has been found that children use cellphones for 18 to 20 hours per day and also many children become more active in social media.
The groups that attract children to various types of fraud also become active.
During this session, parents recognize examples where their children become addicted to various social media platforms since they started using cellphones.
It has also been quoted that even the account possessed by parents is misused.
