Pune: The Crime Branch of Pimpri Chinchwad arrested two men who were allegedly involved in a series of cases of grabbing cellphones for the past five months.
The police have so far detected more than 12 cases like that and restores stolen handsets.
A crime branch officer said, “The people were involved in more than 15 cases like that.
We asked them.” He added that the Duo mainly targeted employees of private companies when they waited for their buses early in the morning.
“Most employees will talk on their cellphones or they will be busy checking their message.
Duo takes advantage of the situation and starts grabbing the cellphone,” the officer said.
After identifying someone who is waiting for the bus itself, the duo will stop their motorcycle near them.
Pillion rider will seize the handset and they will accelerate, the officer explained.
Duo operates in various regions in Pimpri Chinchwad since March.
“We have so far completed five robbery registered at the Chikhali police station, three with Nigdi and each of the Pimpri, Chinchwad, Bhosari MIDC, Chakan and Wakad police station,” the officer said.
