Pink Perch Fish Chaklis: 4 Women from K’taka Selling 150 Kg

Mangaluru: Four women from the village of Laila Beltangady, about 75 km from here, while on our way to a successful entrepreneur with various chaklis and sandige made of pink patches.
Representing the Dutch Self Sheha group from Samagra Sanjeevani Okkota, women were trained in a program organized by Bharatiya Vikas Trust, Nabard and College of Fisheries in the last week of August.
Savithi HS, Shaheeled Begum, Naseema and Harshiya have sold around 150 kg of chaklis fish and sandiges since launch, with the support of the fisheries department.
This may be the first successful product under the scheme of ‘one district, one product’ (odop) to promote the micro food processing industry.
Savithi HS told Tii, “The Department of Fisheries has given us the opportunity to install a kiosk on events.
At Krishi Mela in Bengaluru, we sell ‘Kodubale’ fish.
We pay attention to good demand for these products from North Carnataka Regency, including Chitradurga, Davangere and Kalaburagi.
At present, we prepare around 25 kg per day.
Under the formalization of PM micro food processing companies (PM FME), we hope to buy machines and increase production, “said Savithri.
They sell chaklis fish in pepper, chili, ginger, garlic, mango and a taste of palak.
They also sell Chutney and Biryani Masala fish.
The team is talking to Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation to market the product, he said.
Dr.
Sushmitha Rao, Deputy Director, Department of Fisheries, said that under the Odop scheme to promote the micro food processing industry in the state, marine products have been chosen for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi based on the prevalence in the district and consider the scope in the market for them.
The current department focuses on women’s training to produce value-added products so that the company’s individuals will get support based on the PMFME scheme through credit related credit grants at 35% of capital expenditures that meet the requirements with the maximum ceiling of Rs 10 lakh per unit.
The beneficiaries contribution must be at least 10% of capital expenditure with the loan balance of the bank, he said.
“At present there are around three shgs that have been identified and sell various value-added marine products.
While sales for products are good, the focus must now be on marketing and branding,” Sushmitha added.
