New Delhi: Minister of Textile Piyush Piyus on Saturday called for an increase in handloom exports to Rs 10,000 Crore and doubled production to Rs 1.25 lakh crore in the next three years with a view to promote the growth of this sector.
At present, the export of Handloom is worth Rs 2,500 Crore and production around Rs 60,000 Crore.
“Let’s all finish collectively today that we will go for the target RS 10,000 Crore to export handloom products and targets to increase our production to Rs 1.25 lakh crore in the next three years,” he said in the national handloom of celebration day.
He also suggested to form a team under the leadership of Sunil SETHI Indian fashion design board (FDCI) which consisted of weavers, trainers, equipment makers, marketing experts and other stakeholders to recommend ways to promote the growth of this sector.
This sector must be strong and prosperous without depending on many state support, said goyal.
“We have to find new ways to increase handloom production and explore new markets,” he added.
Speaking at the event, Textile Secretary Singh said the Ministry was working on how to ensure craftsmen and weavers get the right price for their products.
“We try to make more handloom players on gems (government e-marketplace).
More than 1.5 lakh handsloom weavers are in gems,” he said.
