Chandigarh: The city’s first electric bus has reached from Chennai and will launch next week, set the stage for the launch of a green public transportation.
Bus – After the off-offs of the Governor of Punjab-cum-UT Administrator V P Singh Badnore – will be in a trial from PGI to Manimajra to assess technical and mechanical strength.
It will ply on the route for 15 to 20 days without passengers.
The bus will then be available for the city residents.
19 more buses will reach the city in September and run on various routes, as recommended by the UT government transportation department.
The city will get a total of 40 buses.
“For a few weeks, the trial bus will run without passengers.
The trial run will primarily to examine the single charging range and other practical aspects.
One point of charge for the bus has been established in sector 25,” said a senior official.
The green fleet will be for the first time that public buses that do not pollute will run in the city, the end of the conversation and paper work and provide a boost on the plan to replace the usual bus fleet from the download of transportation Chandigarh (CTU) with an electric bus.
In 2016, UT administrator V P Singh Badnore has approved the transportation department proposal to buy electric buses to combat air pollution.
